Alyson Averett, MSW
You don't have to clean up your story before you walk through my door.
Life is complicated. Trauma is complicated. Relationships are complicated. Sex, intimacy, identity, addiction, attachment, and the ways we cope with all of it? Even more complicated.
Therapy should be a place where you can talk about those things without worrying that your therapist will judge you, clutch their pearls, or make you feel like you have to edit yourself.
I'm a Social Service Worker (SSW) and MSW Intern at the University of Utah, with experience in law, child welfare, law enforcement, addiction treatment, and private practice. I work with adults, couples, first responders, and LGBTQIA+ clients navigating trauma, addiction, relationships, and intimacy.
I'm especially passionate about supporting first responders, sex-positive therapy, sexual wellness, and affirming consensual ethical non-monogamy (ENM), polyamory, and kink. I'm EMDR trained and draw from trauma-informed, strengths-based, DBT, CBT, and attachment-based approaches.
My style is warm, validating, and collaborative, with a willingness to challenge you when growth calls for it. You don't have to educate your therapist before you can be understood.
Bring the messy stuff, the uncomfortable stuff, and the things you've been afraid to say out loud. We'll start there.
