Theresa O’Connor, CMHC

I BELIEVE EACH PERSON HAS A RIGHT TO BE HEARD AND FEEL UNDERSTOOD. AS A QUEER AFFIRMING THERAPIST, I BELIEVE EVERYONE HAS SPECIAL GIFTS TO OFFER THE WORLD, AND SOMETIMES WE NEED A LITTLE SUPPORT TO REACH OUR GOALS.
I enjoy assisting individuals in working through the things that have been holding them back and working towards their goals and the things that matter most to them. Sometimes things happen in our lives that leave us feeling lost, broken, or disconnected. You belong here. Let me help you reconnect with the parts of yourself that you’ve been missing. Together we can work as a team to find the best strategies to help you decrease symptoms, intensity of triggers, and identify a path to healing.
Regardless of how researched or how well interventions and techniques are for others, those same specific approaches may not work for you. No one strategy works for everyone. I use a combination of approaches and will work with you to see what is most helpful. I will meet you where you’re at emotionally, spiritually, and physically, and together we can find your path to healing. Some of the modalities I use are EMDR, the Flash Technique, CBT, DBT, and play therapy. I also use therapy with art, music, and somatic awareness.

YOU BELONG HERE
I worked at a homeless shelter early in my career and worked with some of the the most incredible people I have ever met. These individuals had their own unique stories, experiences, and struggles. I was able to witness first hadn’t how much they were impacted when they felt heard, safe, and understood. In these experiences, I realized that I might be able to help others. Throughout my life, I have also worked through many challenges and received kindness, compassion, and those who created a safe space for me. My hope is to be able to create healing experiences for others.
Trauma can impact anyone regardless of their background, race, or socioeconomic status. Trauma interrupts our normal ways of coping. I work with individuals to help them create a calm, safe space to begin working through what has happened. Healing begins with experiencing a safe space to be however you are, feeling heard and understood.
I believe each person has worth and value. This is not dependent on how your body appears, functions, or whether or not your body meets the expectations of others. Sadly, the opposite message has been given to many people for generation. My goal is to help others recognize their inherent worth, access their unique creativity, positive energy, and to increase their feelings of self-worth. When we are able to tap into our worth and resilience we can then thrive.
I’ve worked with a lot of people who struggle with chronic pain, health issues, and individuals caring for loved ones who are struggling. Sometimes those who are struggling with chronic pain, medical conditions, or trying to understand their physical symptoms can feel invisible. It can be difficult to find providers that are able to provide the medical and emotional support they need. Therapy can be a useful place to process these experiences, emotionally prepare for treatments, and honestly voice fears. You deserve a place to feel however you feel, and honestly express them.
